Who we are
POC is a labor association (not a union) for all sworn Unit 7 employees who desire an alternative to their current union representation. POC is run by a volunteer board comprised of Unit 7 employees.
We contract with PLEA to provide excellent legal defense services for our members. As a POC member you are also a PLEA member and have access to PLEA member benefits.

FAQs
Who do I contact for legal defense?
POC members can call PLEA directly 24/7 at 800-367-4321.
Who do I contact about my membership benefits?
If you have questions about coverage please contact our account manager at PLEA, Kathy Gibson at 248-554-3319 or e-mail kathyg@plea.net
I want to cancel my POC membership.
No problem! We make it easy and painless to join or leave POC any time. Please call our membership coordinator, Holly Gant at 805-423-1545 or holly@peaceofficersca.org
Make sure you inform us by the 1st of the month so you are not charged another month's dues. Requests received after the 1st of the month will take effect the following month. Please be courteous and do not stop payment or close your bank account instead of telling us you want to leave POC.
If I promote to supervisor can I still be a POC member?
Yes! If you promote you don't have to leave POC. Some people do because they want to take part in additional benefits their supervisors union may offer or they want to join in solidarity. We encourage you to learn the details of the benefits your supervisors union offers and compare them to the PLEA benefits you are currently receiving through POC. We offer great benefits at a low monthly cost and many POC members continue their POC membership after promoting.
I'm going to retire soon. When should I cancel my POC membership?
Congratulations! Be sure to contact us before you retire so we can plan to shut off your automatic payments and cancel your membership when you retire. We have no way to know when you have retired unless you tell us! We cannot issue refunds for dues you paid while retired if you failed to notify us. Please call 805-423-1545 or email Holly at holly@peaceofficersca.org
Do you offer long term disability (LTD) insurance?
POC has tried to get LTD for our members, but the cost is prohibitive and requires 100% member participation. We regret that we are unable to provide this coverage to the handful of members that have expressed interest.
How do I cancel my CSLEA membership?
We recommend that CSLEA members call CSLEA directly and ask them when they can terminate their membership. In the past, members only have a 30-day window at the end of a contract in which they can formally terminate their memberships.
Who do I call if I have a contract grievance?
Currently you contact a CSLEA (1-800-522-2873) representative because there can only be one recognized bargaining representative (union) at a time which is CSLEA.
Who do I call if I'm served with an Internal Affairs investigation, an adverse action or other disciplinary action and wish to appeal or have representation?
If you are an active POC member you must contact PLEA LDF at 800-367-4321 and get a case number. If you are a CSLEA member you will call CSLEA's legal defense (1-800-533-5448).
